Pima Cotton

Seasonal Spotlight

Prized for its durability, versatility and unrivaled softness, Pima cotton has become the benchmark fabric for premium basics.

The printed cotton t-shirt has been a staple of Saturdays NYC ever since we launched in 2009. As we’ve evolved over the years, so have our offerings, and naturally, our curiosity for higher quality products has followed. In the Fall of 2016, we launched our Pima cotton program as the first step into premium basics, and we’ve continued to build upon the program each season since.

Named for the group of Native Americans that first cultivated the plant in the southwest US, Pima cotton boasts an array of advantages over average cotton. Along with Egyptian cotton, it’s a member of the ELS (extra long staple) cotton family, which grow with longer threads than average cotton strands. This allows textile mills to weave a stronger, softer and denser fabric, and ultimately, more absorbent and longer-lasting clothing.

Pick up our Brandon T-Shirt, James Longsleeve T-Shirt, or Rosen Tank Top and you’ll instantly notice the weight of the fabric and its smooth hand feel. The long fibers from the Pima we use prevent pilling and allow the garment to hold its shape through years of washes. Fit-wise, we’ve settled on something that sits between slim and standard, making our Pima shirts perfect for wearing alone or as a baselayer under a button-down. Rounding out their design is a D-shaped yoke at the base of the back collar and a tonal Saturdays NYC logo print, as well as seasonal garment dyeing, which includes colorways like Mint and Bronze for Fall ‘17.■
